The Peralta name is well-known in Major League Baseball, but despite sharing a surname, Freddy Peralta and Sammy Sosa are not related.
Freddy Peralta, a baseball pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers, was born on June 4, 1996, in Moca, a town in the Cibao region of the Dominican Republic.
In contrast, Sammy Sosa, a Dominican-American former professional baseball right fielder, was born on November 12, 1968, in San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic.
Sammy’s full name is Samuel Peralta Sosa, whereas Freddy goes by Freddy Peralta Díaz.
Freddy is the son of Pedro Peralta and Octavia Díaz, whereas Sammy was Lucrecia (Mireya) and Juan Bautista Montero.
While Sammy was the fifth of six children, Freddy has only one sibling, a named Luis Peralta, who is also a professional baseball pitcher currently with the Colorado Rockies.
Tragically, Sammy’s father passed away when he was just six years old, leaving his mother to raise him and his siblings.
To support the family, Sammy and his siblings took on various jobs, including washing cars and shining shoes.

Sammy Sosa played in Major League Baseball for 18 seasons, primarily with the Chicago Cubs.
After brief stints with the Texas Rangers and Chicago White Sox, Sosa joined the Cubs in 1992 and became one of the game’s most prolific hitters.
Over his career, he amassed 609 home runs, 2,408 hits, and 1,667 RBIs.
Sosa was a seven-time All-Star and won the National League MVP award in 1998, a season in which he captivated the baseball world with his home run chase alongside Mark McGwire.
