Duane “Skip” Baylor, a baseball coach for Olympic Indoor Sports, passed away unexpectedly in Maryland.
He also served at the Montgomery County Police (MCPD) and, following his retirement, joined the Howard County Police (HCPD) as a dedicated Crime Analyst.

His passion for the job and his sharp, analytical mind left a lasting mark on both agencies and everyone who had the privilege of working with him.
A favorite story he loved to tell was about his interview with , a Deputy Director of Policy and Planning at the Montgomery County Police Department.
Skip was surprised when Tami told him he didn’t want the job in her division because he was clearly meant to work in Crime Analysis.
Sad to learn of the loss of HCPD Alumni Duane “Skip” Baylor.

Moreover, his commitment extended beyond storytelling to active mentorship. He served as a coach for the HCYP Raiders and as a dedicated baseball coach and mentor for Olympic Indoor Sports.
His leadership, steady encouragement, and genuine love for the sport inspired a generation of young athletes on the field. He taught not only the skills of the game but also the values of teamwork, integrity, and perseverance.
Duane “Skip” Baylor’s greatest joy was found in baseball. He coached teams such as the HCYP Raiders and Maryland Pride, sharing his knowledge.
Beyond his professional life, Skip’s legacy is one of dedication, integrity, and heart.
He was a man who served his community in multiple capacities. He touched many lives through his work and his passions, and he will be remembered with great respect, admiration, and affection.
