East Hampton, Connecticut Resident and Former Softball and Basketball Player, Susan Joyce,62, Dies After Courageous Battle With Cancer

East Hampton, Connecticut, and Portland, Maine, communities are mourning the untimely death of a beloved resident and former athlete, Susan Leslie Joyce.
Susan Leslie Joycepeacefully on January 4, 2026, at the age of 62 surrounding by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on May 27, 1963, as the eldest daughter of parents Donald and Jane Dakers, Susan was a cherished member of the Maine and East Hampton sports community and touched the lives of many with her kind nature.
Susan Leslie Joyce loved activities outdoors and spent most of her adulthood hiking and camping in Portland, Maine.
Addtionally Susan excelled as an outstanding athlete; she played softball and basketball and proudly held records in Javelin and softball throw.
She was a proud graduate of the University of Southern Maine.
Her love for sports was immense. Susan was a devoted New England Patriots fan and never missed a game.
Beyond her athletic journey, Susan Leslie Joyce was a foodie who often visited new restaurants and found great joy in baking.
Furthermore, the untimely death of Susan Leslie Joyce has left a profound void in the lives of her family, friends, and loved ones.
Many remember Susan as the funniest person who would light up the room with her contagious smile and her cheerful nature.
Her sister Betsey Ruzsbatzky wrote:
“It is with heavy hearts we share the passing of our dear sister Susan after her courageous battle with cancer. Her smile will forever live in our hearts ❤️”
Another added:
“That beautiful, warm smile that I will remember forever. I will miss my cornhole partner sooo much.. love you Sue ❤️”
John RuzsbatzkySusan Leslie Joyce’s fearless and adventurous nature will always be remembered by her family, friends, and loved ones.
She leaves behind her husband, Terry Joyce, son, Wyatt Joyce, her sisters, brother, niece, nephews, and the entire family.
Susan’s family has organized a funeral and memorial service to honor her on Thursday, January 8, from 5 PM until 7 PM at the Spencer Funeral Home, 112 Main St., East Hampton.
A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated in St. John Paul II Parish of St. Patrick Church in East Hampton on Friday, January 9, at 11 AM, followed by burial in St. Patrick Cemetery.
