The Henderson, North Carolina, community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Zechariah Israel Turner, a 16-year-old whose life was tragically cut short on October 4, 2026.

Born in Wake County to Angela Brown and Jason Turner, Zechariah grew up surrounded by love and support.

He was known for his vibrant spirit, sense of humor, and the way he brought light into every room he entered.

Those who knew him best describe him as someone who made ordinary moments memorable.

A viewing will be on Friday, October 17, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Davis-Royster Funeral Service, Inc. in Henderson.

His funeral service will take place on Saturday, October 18, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Vance County High School.

Zechariah is survived by his parents, Angela Brown and Jason Turner; his brother, Ezekiel Turner; and a host of extended family and friends who loved him dearly.

Zechariah’s father, Jason Turner, shared an emotional message reflecting his grief, imagining his son’s “race finished earlier than most” and holding onto the hope that Zechariah’s spirit has found peace and purpose beyond this life.

Friends and loved ones have flooded social media with tributes.

Phylicia Bullock Kearney remembered babysitting him since birth, him “the little kid brother I never had.”
