Watertown High School Football Player Luke Currier, 18, Tragically Dies in Moped Accident on Way to School in Belmont, Mass

Luke Currier, an 18-year-old senior at Watertown High School, died in a tragic moped accident on the morning of November 4, 2026.

Luke was on his way to school when the accident occurred.

He was a junior varsity football player for Watertown High School and was well-known for his hardworking nature both on and off the field. 

Classmates and teachers described him as a bright student with a promising future.

According to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office and Belmont Police, the incident happened around 9 a.m. on Trapelo Road in Belmont, Massachusetts.

Luke was reportedly riding his moped on the wrong side of the road in an erratic manner.

When the concerned officers who were there at the time attempted to pull him over, he did not stop.

He continued onto Belmont Street and then turned onto Stults Road. At the intersection of Stults Road and Fairview Avenue, Luke collided with an SUV.

Authorities confirmed that he was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash is still under investigation, and officials are working to understand the full circumstances.

Following the accident, the Belmont community has expressed its sorrow and grief in the media.

Reflecting his support and impact in the football game, one person wrote on Facebook:

Known for his strength and dedication as a junior varsity football player for Watertown High School, Luke was a teammate admired by many for his supportive and hardworking nature. Luke’s legacy of kindness and unwavering positivity will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Following his passing, one of his cousins, Linda, has also started a to support Luke’s parents, Jeff and Maureen.

Luke’s parents were born and raised in Watertown, MA. Jeff works for the town of Belmont, while Maureen works as a hairdresser in Waltham.

Amid this tragic moment for the Currier family, cousin Linda is stepping forward to support the family through the campaign.
